4 Ways to Take Care of Your Toilet

There are plenty of things to take care of your home. Your toilet is one of them. We know that the toilet is something people often would rather not talk about. However, it is a good idea to keep this part of your plumbing system in mind so you can be prepared if something goes wrong with it.

Our team is here to help with all of your plumbing needs, including repairs and maintenance for things like your toilet. No one relishes the idea of reverting back to the era of having to use outhouses. Avoid that circumstance by using these tips and our helpful services to keep up your toilet plumbing in Fairfax, VA.

1. Make sure to only flush toilet paper

Some people make the mistake of thinking that a toilet is a solution to flush away a wide range of things. However, we strongly suggest that the only thing you flush down the toilet is toilet paper. Trying to flush trash or even so-called flushable wipes is a great way to end up with a clogged toilet or even damage to your toilet drainpipes.

2. Address clogs with solutions OTHER than chemical drain cleaners

You have a clogged toilet. What are your options to address it? Your first option is elbow grease and a plunger. Beyond this, it is a good idea to talk to a professional plumber about using a drain snake or even a hydro jet to address the clog. Notice that we didn’t offer a chemical drain cleaner as an option. This is because these liquids are more likely to harm your drain pipes than they are to effectively remove the entirety of your clog.

3. Address leaks in the toilet or toilet drain as soon as possible

Have you noticed that your toilet is running on its own at times? Or perhaps it has serious problems flushing at all. These are other issues that are signs of a leak somewhere in your toilet. Whether it is a leak in the drain pipe, a loose or worn-out stopper, or another problem, you don’t want to leave a toilet leak to worsen. This can put you at risk of water damage in your home. Instead, make sure to talk to a professional plumber to get your leaking toilet running right again.

4. Keep the kids out of the toilet

We know that kids can be tricky but we also know that a poorly timed flush can easily whisk away a child’s toy and mess with your drains pretty badly. For anyone with young mischievous kids, it is a good idea to keep bathroom doors closed and even install child-proofing on your toilet if necessary to prevent some of those problems.

When you are having trouble with your toilet, the problem isn’t always solvable with a plunger. For bigger toilet issues, you should always turn to a plumber for help. The plumbers on our team are here to help with this and any other plumbing woes you may encounter.
